In this article, Jay Adams addresses the question “Why is biblical counseling so concerned about the labels used to describe people’s problems?” Adams maintains that labeling is absolutely necessary and that appropriate and accurate labels tell the truth. He argues that the fundamental problem with labels is that, as sinners use them, labels often tell lies. Adams details 5 reasons that poor labeling is dangerous. He concludes with the idea that biblical counselors should use biblical labels or labels that clearly express biblical concepts.
