Biblical Interpretation and Counseling

Journal of Biblical Counseling 16:3

Part 1 of a 2 part series. In this article, Jay Adams argues that a person who can’t interpret the Word of God properly can’t counsel biblically. Adams points out the various ways that Scripture is easily misused and twisted by would-be counselors. He argues that diligent study is necessary to counteract misinterpretation. The task of study is described in three words: Hermeneutics, exegesis and opening. Adams concludes that the goal of interpretation is to understand the thoughts and intents of the Holy Spirit. Part 1 is in JBC 16:3 and Part 2 in JBC 17:1.
