In this article, Jay Adams addresses the issue of “prefacing:” the bad habit of announcing what one is about to do before doing it, when there is no reason for doing so. Adams argues that prefacing breaks the continuity of the sermon, has no biblical precedent, and adds nothing to the sermon.
