Does the Shoe Fit?

Journal of Biblical Counseling 20:3

In this editorial, David Powlison examines the way that Christians handle criticism. Powlison reviews the self-protective measures that we use to defend against criticism and argues that Christ uses critics to guard our souls from self-destructive tendencies. He examines both the giving and receiving of criticism and acknowledges that often, the critics are partially right. Powlison reviews comments by recent critics of biblical counseling including Mark McMinn, Tim Clinton, George Ohlschlager and James Beck. Powlison concludes by encouraging “fair criticism” and a commitment to hold candid, constructive conversations about biblical counseling.
