Counseling and the Sovereignty of God

Journal of Biblical Counseling 11:2

In this article, Jay Adams discusses the bottom-line truth in complicated counseling situations—the sovereignty of God. Adams discusses the examples of Joseph, Moses, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and their unwavering trust in the sovereignty of God. Adams argues that firm dependence upon the sovereignty of God is a dynamic concept in counseling—one that makes the difference—and must undergird every effort at counseling. He examines two distinct, but dangerous, tendencies of those who superficially hold the truth of God’s sovereignty. Adams concludes with a discussion of the importance of the role of the pastor in care for the flock.
