A Discussion Among Clergy: Pastoral Counseling Talks with Secular Psychology

Journal of Biblical Counseling 13:2

This article is a revised form of an address given to Ph.D. students in clinical psychology at Hahnemann University. Welch presents four propositions regarding secular therapists and therapies: Therapists are secular clergy; Psychotherapeutic world views are unverifiable; Therapists rarely examine their faith commitments and Therapists want conversions. Welch continues with four Christian propositions regarding people and therapy: The Christian worldview begins with God; Speaks with depth to the observations of modern psychology; Speaks to critical psychological phenomena rarely addressed in secular theories and that the World makes no sense apart from a Christian worldview.
