Queries and Controversies: Do you ever refer people to psychologists or psychiatrists for help?

Journal of Biblical Counseling 13:2

In this article, David Powlison responds to the question “Do you ever refer people to psychologists or psychiatrists for help?” Powlison argues that just as you don’t blindly trust the title ‘minister’ or ‘pastor’ without looking at what the person teaches, you should not naively trust in any other title. He concludes that biblically wise people from many walks of life might prove helpful and that such a person might happen to have the title of psychologist or psychiatrist, or the title pastor, mom, teacher, etc. Powlison encourages the reader to look for biblical wisdom, not a title.
