In this continuation of part 2, Tim Lane argues that Jesus is the ultimate elder and the ultimate deacon. Because we are recipients of Jesus’ word and deed ministry, we are called to imitate this ministry through the life of the church. What are the implications of this? Tim Lane shares three levels of poverty relief in the Kingdom: Mercy relief (meeting immediate needs), Community development (creating jobs, schools, etc), and Social action and justice (examining how laws affect individuals). He spends most of his time discussing nine essentials for mobilizing the church in any context (urban, suburban and rural alike) to live out “word and deed” ministry in our local communities. He reminds us of this kingdom principle: Loving people well is not efficient.
