You won’t find the term “addiction” in a Bible concordance, but you do find it in the psychiatric literature. It can seem that, of the two “books,” the psychiatric literature provides the best help to addicts because it directly captures the addict’s experience. Yet the Bible speaks to all problems. In this audio talk, Ed Welch answers this question, “How can we find the intersection between these abnormal problems of addiction and Scripture itself?” Welch maintains that Scripture finds the normal in the abnormal. He concludes by finding the common contours of the human heart, which make the problem of addiction more familiar and Scripture more alive.
