Queries and Controversies

Journal of Biblical Counseling 16:2

In this article, Alan Medinger responds to the question “Why are struggles with sexual temptations stronger at some times than at others?” Medinger argues that vulnerability to temptation often comes in a cyclical pattern. He maintains that there is no single answer as to why it appears cyclical, but one factor is how ingratitude (linked with pride and self-pity) commonly creates greater vulnerability to sexual lust. Medinger concludes that a grateful heart is not going to pity itself or need self-comforting, knowing that it really doesn’t deserve anything.
