In this article, Wesley Walters examines the original “First Vision” story of Joseph Smith as well as a review of previously published works that dispute the historical foundation of this story. Walters examines the works of Dr. Milton V. Backman, Jr., of Brigham Young University and his efforts to verify an 1820 revival by historical investigation.
