Suffering and Psalm 119

In this editorial, David Powlison argues that Psalm 119 is the most extensive “I-to-You” (person to God) conversation in the Bible. The psalmist first asserts who the LORD is, next lays out his own problems, then pleads for God’s help, and finally reaffirms his identity in God. Powlison concludes that these four messages intertwine throughout this psalm and serve as a model for us as we seek God in prayer.
