Outlining

Journal of Biblical Counseling 2:2

In this article, Adams addresses the misunderstandings related to outlining of a biblical text for preaching. He maintains that natural divisions in a text may serve to understand its literary structure, but serve as poor indicators of sermon points. Adams seeks to maintain a distinction between literary analysis and preaching. He moves into a comparison and contrast of a “lecture stance” with a “preaching stance.” Adams concludes the article with a sample lecture outline and preaching outline and demonstrates the differences.
