In this article, James Alpaugh writes to help the reader recognize the various types of disabilities, conditions or limiting factors which may have bearing on the effectiveness of counseling. He discusses the role of others in assessment and treatment of learning disabled individuals. Among the contributors to learning problems, Alpaugh mentions allergies, hearing problems, vision problems, hyperactivity, malnutrition and mental retardation. He then moves into a discussion of motor difficulties, problems of attention, receptive difficulties and problems of integration. Part 1 is in JPP 2:1 and Part 2 is in JPP 2:2.
