This independent contractor engagement is not for a fixed term and may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause, subject to the terms of the independent contractor agreement.

CCEF’s counseling, resources, and training aim to help the church care wisely and lovingly for people in all seasons and situations.

position summary

This is an exclusively biblical counseling role. This includes counseling on a range of topics and meeting documentation requirements. It also includes the opportunity to participate in developmental meetings with CCEF. This role does not provide clinical, licensed mental health services. The counselor must operate within the limitations of their training and non-licensed status. This includes, but is not limited to, not diagnosing, not treating mental disorders, and not practicing psychotherapy. Contract Counselors are required to consult with the Counseling Manager or Counseling Coordinator when cases present beyond their training, experience, or scope of biblical counseling, including but not limited to risk of harm, complex trauma, or legal concerns.

key responsibilities

  • Counseling approximately 7-12 hours per week.
  • Expected participation as part of program standards in a 1-hour weekly consultation group and monthly 2-hour symposium for ongoing counselor development.
  • Expected participation as part of program standards in an onboarding and orientation process.
  • Communicating availability with the Counseling Manager or Counseling Administrator.
  • Required adherence to CCEF privacy, confidentiality, and data security policies.
  • Use of only CCEF-approved platforms for documentation and communication.
  • No counselee data may be stored or downloaded outside of the approved systems.
  • Optional participation in 1-hour monthly informational meetings.
  • Optional participation in 30-minute daily Personal Counseling Ministries meetings.

qualifications

  • Agreement with and support of CCEF’s mission and core beliefs; experience with CCEF’s materials required.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while counseling virtually.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with counselees via video.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
  • Technological proficiency, including Google workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel, and Zoom.
  • You must have your own computer, camera, confidential counseling space, and reliable internet connection.
  • You must be able to provide a copy of $1,000,000/1,000,000 minimum in professional liability insurance. This can be obtained after being accepted as a CCEF Counselor or Counseling Apprentice but must be sent to the Counseling Administrator before you can begin counseling with CCEF. Our Counseling Administrator will be available to help guide you through the process of obtaining liability insurance.
  • Master of Divinity with an emphasis in biblical counseling
  • Master’s degree in biblical counseling
  • Completion of all three of CCEF’s old certificate program
  • Completion of the Formation and Essentials certificate program at CCEF + 2 years of lay counseling experience in the local church (referral and documentation needed)

Contract Counselors must possess an appreciation for and congruence with the stated Christian mission of CCEF to restore Christ to counseling and counseling to the church.

compensation

Rate of Pay: $55 per 50-minute session. Payment is made per completed 50-minute counseling session. Contract Counselors are responsible for submitting accurate session records in accordance with CCEF procedures. Payment is issued on a bimonthly basis following receipt and verification of session records. No compensation is provided for administrative time, preparation, training, or meetings unless otherwise specified in writing.

It also includes the opportunity to participate in developmental meetings with CCEF. This role does not provide clinical, licensed mental health services. The counselor must operate within the limitations of their training and non-licensed status. This includes, but is not limited to, not diagnosing, not treating mental disorders, and not practicing psychotherapy. CCAs are required to consult with the Counseling Manager, Counseling Coordinator, or designated Senior Counselor when cases present beyond their training, experience, or scope of biblical counseling, including but not limited to risk of harm, complex trauma, or legal concerns. CCAs provide counseling services under increased consultation and support and may have limitations on case complexity as determined by the Counseling Manager.

  • Quarterly meetings with a Senior Counselor for detailed development conversations.
  • Expected participation as part of program standards in a 1-hour weekly consultation group and monthly 2-hour symposium for ongoing counselor development.
  • Expected participation as part of program standards in an onboarding and orientation process.
  • Communicating availability with the Counseling Administrator.
  • Required adherence to CCEF privacy, confidentiality, and data security policies.
