Lutz maintains that the Bible is full of commands to give thanks to God because it is not our human instinct to do so. Being thankful allows us to be a part of what’s going on in heaven even before we get there; it is our inheritance through Christ. Lutz concludes that this hope enables us to choose our responses to suffering.
