National Conference 2010: Speakers

Tim Lane
Executive Director and faculty member at CCEF. Tim Lane has been counseling for almost 20 years. He has Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary where he is also an associate professor of practical theology. He is the co-author of CCEF's Transformation Series Curriculum, How People Change, and Relationships - A Mess Worth Making.

Mike Emlet
Counselor and faculty member at CCEF. Mike Emlet practiced as a family physician for twelve years before retiring to join CCEF and beomce a lecturer in Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary. Mike holds an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary. Dr. Emlet is the author of the booklets Help for the Caregiver, Angry Children, Asperger Syndrome and OCD: Freedom for the Obsessive Compulsive and of the book CrossTalk: Where Life and Scripture Meet.

David Powlison
Counselor and faculty member at CCEF, and adjunct professor at Westminster Theological Seminary. David holds a Ph.D. in History and Science of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary. David has been counseling for over thirty years. He has written many books and articles, including Speaking Truth in Love, Seeing with New Eyes, Power Encounters, Competent to Counsel, and The Biblical Counseling Movement: History and Context.

Winston Smith
Director of counseling and a faculty member at CCEF, and a lecturer of practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary. Winston Smith and has been counseling for 15 years. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Seminary, where he is also in the process of attaining a Doctor of Ministry degree. Winston is the author the mini-books entitled Rest, Help for Stepfamilies, and Divorce Recovery and is currently working on a book on marriage.

Ed Welch
Counselor and faculty member at CCEF. Ed Welch holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a neuro-psychology specialty from the University of Utah, as well as a Master of Divinity degree from Biblical Theological Seminary. Ed has been counseling for over twenty-six years and has written many books and articles on biblical counseling, including the best selling titles When People are Big and God is Small, Addictions: a Banquet in the Grave, Blame it on the Brain, Depression, Running Scared: Fear, Worry and the God of Rest and a curriculum entitled Crossroads: A Step-by-Step Guide Away from Addiction.

Monica Kim
Counselor and associate faculty member at CCEF. Monica Kim has a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Toronto, Canada, and a Master of Arts in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary. Monica has worked in church ministry for fourteen years and is currently a part of the pastoral staff at her local church.

Julie Lowe
Counselor and associate faculty member at CCEF. Julie Lowe has been counseling for over eleven years. She has a Master of Arts degree in counseling from Biblical Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science in Counseling from Toccoa Falls College. Julie is a Certified Christian Conciliator through Peacemakers Ministries and has spoken on conflict resolution for various groups. Julie has extensive experience with foster and adoptive families.

Aaron Sironi
Aaron is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor at our CCEF affiliate office in his home state of Montana and has been counseling for five years. He holds a Master of Science degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary and is a certified Level I and Level III biblical counselor from CCEF. He is married to his wife Kellie, and they have two young sons.

Cecelia Bernhardt
Cecelia is the director of counseling at CCEF. She has completed the Advanced Counseling Certificate through CCEF and also has a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary. She has worked in various Christian ministries for many years, including women’s ministries at her church.

Bob Lepine
Bob Lepine is known to Christian radio listeners across the country as the co-host of the popular daily radio program, FamilyLife Today® with Dennis Rainey*.  He is the author of numerous articles and books, including The Christian Husband and Helping Your Children Know God.  He speaks on marriage and family at conferences and events worldwide.

A veteran of Christian radio, Bob serves as the Vice President of Content and the Chief Creative Officer at FamilyLife.  He received a communications degree from the University of Tulsa, in 1978.  Since that time, Bob has worked for a variety of Christian and mainstream radio stations in Tulsa, Phoenix, Sacramento, and San Antonio.  Prior to joining FamilyLife in 1992, he hosted his own live radio talk show, and held various other positions from news anchor to sales manager and station general manager.  Since joining FamilyLife, Bob has helped FamilyLife develop eight different radio programs that reach a weekly audience of nearly nine million people.  Bob is a member of the board of directors for the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB).

Bob and his wife, Mary Ann, have been married since 1979, and they have five children.  Bob and his family make their home in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Dave Harvey
Dave Harvey is responsible for church care, church planting, and international expansion for Sovereign Grace Ministries. He has served as a member of the Sovereign Grace Ministries leadership team since 1995. 

Dave has been in pastoral ministry at Covenant Fellowship Church (Glen Mills, PA) since 1986, was ordained in 1988, and served as senior pastor from 1990 to 2008. He has served on the board of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation since 2006. Dave received a Master of Arts in Missiology from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1989, worked toward a Master of Divinity from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1993 to 1995, and in 2001 became a graduate in Westminster’s D.Min. program. The subject of his doctoral thesis was the identification and equipping of church planters.

Dave contributed a chapter to Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World (Crossway, 2008) and is the author of When Sinners Say “I Do”: Discovering the Power of the Gospel for Marriage (Shepherd, 2007). Dave also wrote a chapter for Why Small Groups?, a book from Sovereign Grace’s Pursuit of Godliness series. He continues to work on other writing projects.

Dave, and his wife Kimm live in West Chester, Pennsylvania, have four children, and despite his many protests, one stray cat.

Jason Barrie
Jason Barrie has been the associate pastor at Rocky Mountain Community Church in Billings, Montana since 2003. He also serves as lecturer in Practical Theology at Westminster Seminary California (Marriage and Family Counseling). Prior to coming to Montana, he served at churches in Augusta, Georgia and Poway, California. Jason holds a Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary California and a B.S. from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. He is a Certified Christian Conciliator and is completing his Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia).  Jason is writing a doctoral project entitled, “When Two Become One—Preparing for Grace Based Marriage,” a help for pastors and church leaders counseling couples before marriage.  Jason has been married to his high-school sweetheart, Kristin, for 16 years and they have three elementary-aged children.  He loves the great outdoors, camping with family and friends, coaching his children’s sports teams and downhill skiing in the “Big Sky” state of Montana.

Gary Friesen
Gary Friesen is Executive Vice President and Legal Counsel for Peacemaker Ministries. He is a frequent conference and seminar speaker who loves to show how the hope of the gospel transforms people going through conflict. He has taught biblical peacemaking and mediation in seventeen countries on several continents. Gary also consults with pastors, ministers to churches, and helps families, businesses, and organizations resolve disputes and implement biblical conflict resolution systems.  He and his wife, Laurel, have four children and live in Billings, MT.  Gary passionately enjoys his family, his church, travel, and just about any outdoor activity.

Matt Mason
Matt serves on the pastoral team of Lakeview Christian Center, a Sovereign Grace church in New Orleans, where he oversees the music and singles ministries. He also serves under Bob Kauflin as one of the regional worship coordinators in Sovereign Grace Ministries. He and his wife Paula have three children.
