The movie captures the real, gritty lives of two people: Pat Solatano and Tiffany Maxwell. &nbsp;Pat lost everything—his wife, his house, his job—and has recently left a psychiatric hospital. &nbsp;Tiffany’s husband died not long ago and she is haunted with grief and guilt. As Pat and Tiffany begin a &nbsp;friendship together, they test the question: does life really have a silver lining?</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Why talk about a movie? As believers we want to meaningfully engage in our culture’s unique art forms. And this movie in particular lends itself to a rich discussion about issues like mental health, relationships and family ties. That said, please be advised that the film is rated R and contains profanity and some nudity. Read a parent’s guide to the film <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1045658/parentalguide?ref_=tt_stry_pg">here</a>, and please be aware of who is in the room when you listen. &nbsp;</span></p> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <p><br><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1045658/?ref_=sr_1"><img alt="" src="http://www.ccef.org/sites/default/files/Screen Shot 2013-03-04 at 11.31.34 AM.png" style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px; width: 175px; height: 260px; float: right;"></a><strong style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">Cast</strong><br><span style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">Bradley Cooper as Pat</span><br><span style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">Jennifer Lawrence as Tiffany</span><br><span style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">Robert De Niro as Pat Sr.</span><br><span style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">Jacki Weaver as Dolores</span><br><span style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">Chris Tucker as Danny</span><br><br><em><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1045658/?ref_=sr_1" target="_blank">Movie reviews from IMDB</a></em><br><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1045658/parentalguide?ref_=tt_stry_pg" target="_blank"><em>Content Advisory fom IMDB</em></a></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="620" height="320" alt="" src="http://www.ccef.org/sites/default/files/blog/images/3_5_13_banners_04.png?1362452001" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-audio-length"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 24:19 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-audio-link"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> http://traffic.libsyn.com/ccef/Silver_Linings_Playbook.mp3 </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-featured-resource"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> off </div> </div> </div> Bi-Polar Disorder Movies Psychiatric Disorders Silver Linings Playbook CCEF Ed Welch Mike Emlet Myriam Hertzog Winston Smith Albums American film directors BlackBerry PlayBook Bradley Cooper Business Cinema of the United States Film Human Interest Jacki Weaver Jennifer Lawrence Lining Nationality Pat Playbook Robert De Niro Tiffany Visual arts Tue, 05 Mar 2013 06:56:16 +0000 3298 at http://www.ccef.org God's care is our Comfort in Fear and Tragedy http://www.ccef.org/podcast/gods-care-our-comfort-fear-and-tragedy <p><span style="font-size:14px;">On Friday December 14, 26 people, including twenty children, were gunned down in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. In this passage, the Israelites are wandering in the desert and question God about their lack of food. They fear for their survival and have concerns about God and his plans. With the Connecticut shootings fresh in his mind, Alasdair was able to draw some helpful parallels between the Israelites’ questions and ours.<br><br>We hope you will be blessed as this sermon points to the goodness of God who continually cares for us.
