Do You Want to Change But Don’t Know How?

CCEF Core Curriculum Series

CCEF has developed a core curriculum series based on its biblical counseling model for churches, ministries, and interested laypersons. Camelback Bible Church, Mars Hill Church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, Capitol Hill Baptist Church, and many other U.S. and international churches and ministries have successfully used these courses. As they went through the courses, pastors and leaders noticed that participants were learning to connect the dots in their own lives between sinful behaviors, their underlying motivations, and the grace that was available to them as they went to Christ in repentance and faith. Not only that, they were able to pass those insights along to others. True gospel-driven change was happening in their churches and ministries!

The curriculum series consists of three courses. The foundational course, How People Change: How Christ Changes Us by His Grace, coauthored by Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp introduces the model of biblical change developed at CCEF and teaches participants how to apply it to their lives. Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands: How to Help Others Change by Paul Tripp, explains how to take the principles from How People Change and become an instrument of change in the lives of others. The third course, Change and Your Relationships: A Mess Worth Making coauthored by Tripp and Lane, explores how God uses relationships to bring change to individuals and their communities. Materials include extensive lesson content, homework discussion, CPR (Central point/Personal life/Relationships application), detailed illustrations, group discussion guides, and Make It Real life applications.

Each course has two guides: a facilitator’s guide with directions, answers, and extra material inserted for the small group leader and a study guide for the participants. When used together, leaders will be equipped to promote meaningful, lively discussion in their classes, and believers will learn how to apply the principles of biblical change to themselves and their relationships. The courses are based on three groundbreaking books: How People Change (Lane and Tripp); Instruments in the Redeemer's Hand (Tripp); and Relationships: A Mess Worth Making (Lane and Tripp).

The How People Change course is also available as a 12-session seminar (2-disc DVD) with teaching by Paul Tripp and Tim Lane. Through live recordings of their teaching, the material in the How People Change Study Guide is introduced and explained. Also included in the seminar is a video introduction, conclusion, and bonus material for leaders on how to use the study guide.

CCEF Small Group Resources

Two small group resources, Crossroads: A Step-by-Step Guide Away from Addiction and When I Am Afraid: A Step-by-Step Guide Away from Fear and Anxiety authored by Edward T. Welch, apply the principles of biblical change to two specific problems: addiction and anxiety. In Crossroads, Ed Welch, offers a way through addiction using ten biblical steps that walk addicts through the process of change. Addicts will learn to recognize addictive patterns, desire something better than their addiction, cling to Jesus, and find hope even after failure. Crossroads has a facilitator’s guide that gives leaders the extra material they need to guide an addict through the process of biblical change.

In When I Am Afraid, Welch addresses two similar, life-dominating issues: worry and anxiety. Through seven meditations on Scripture, he guides participants in how to face their fears, use them as a window to what is important to them, and show them how to go to Jesus for mercy and help with their specific worries and anxieties.
