This elective will discuss the essential elements of working with substance, gambling, and sex addicts in your church, especially those with a history of relapse. A plan for effective discipleship will be presented, along with a discussion of the common pitfalls pastors and counselors encounter when working with addicts in the church.
Even Christian families can be caught up in a web of conflict and confrontation that is often secret, leading to physical violence. We will consider pastoral responses to domestic violence, including common conceptualizations; a biblical theology of suffering; and strategies inside and outside the church to intervene.
