Historically, the church has responded to controversies by writing creeds and confessions of faith to help clarify what Scripture says about the issue under debate. This article is David Powlison’s “first draft” of such a document about the foundations and scope of biblical counseling. His hope is to begin a constructive debate and clarify core commitments for the church as it navigates through the challenges raised by secular psychology and the mental health system.
